I'll be frank with you. I LOVE the Mario & Luigi series (as you can no doubt tell from my sprite content) and the reveal that the Superstar Saga DX leak is actually, indeed a real thing just makes me all giddy inside.
Fawful's back! The environments even look like they used to! AND NOW THEY'RE GORGEOUS! Overworld sprites are full-sized! Bros. Attacks are back!
And now, they even have Minion Horde mode to replace Mario Bros.! And in footage they showed, Minion Horde mode looks damn amazing and as fun as hell! (AND THERE'S EVEN THE ELITE TRIO!)
Game's coming out October 6, too. I'm getting a Day 1 purchase for this, dumb title be damned.
Good job, Nintendo. Good job.
Fiery's One-Off Fic Retrospective (11/7/23)
So, I’ve been in the fanfic-writing biz for about five years now, and I’ve published a good number of fics in that time—79, according to Fanfiction.net. To celebrate, I decided to rank all of my one-off fics by how much I like them now and how fun they were to put together (mostly by the former, if I’m being honest). This list excludes most of the fics from the Make a Friend series, all of my Worlds of Transformations works (and related), and any of my WIP longfics (Face-Off Hope Romp, But the Fates, Can You Feel Life, etc.). The former are very heavily connected together, so they’re not exactly ‘one-off’ per say—and my TF/TG works aren’t exactly in the usual ballpark for this. Note: This is subjective as hell. The fics’ placements here are in no way indicative of their actual, objective quality, whatever that may look like, and just because a fic is low on the list doesn’t mean I dislike it or whatever. This also isn’t that cohesive. Now, ranked from bottom to top: Last
Thoughts on Persona 3 Reload's leak
So Persona 3 Reload was leaked on Instagram alongside Persona 5 Tactica: I have to say, I didn't think this day would ever happen. I thought Atlus would just power on through to Persona 6, especially since they also did that mediocre re-release of Persona 3 Portable. But then again, I was proven wrong with my guesses about Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Metroid Prime Remastered, so maybe I'm just too much of a cynic. Either way, I'm pretty excited for this. Persona 3 isn't a perfect game by any means: it's got uneven pacing, dated gameplay mechanics, a mixed bag of Social Links, and all sorts of things that prevent it from staying on the same level as its successors—and while Portable does address some of this, its downgraded presentation doesn't exactly do that version much favors, either. There's a lot of things I'd like to see addressed in this full-blown remake that probably won't be immediately obvious, so in no particular order: Kotone Shiomi: I love Portable's FeMC, and think
Errant thoughts about Metroid Prime Remastered
The first time I ever played Metroid Prime was through the Wii U Trilogy rerelease, all the way back in April of 2021 (two months before the announcement of Dread, funnily enough). I was high off the experience of going through the Metroid Vanguard addon for Sonic Robo Blast 2, and it absolutely blew me away. I don't play first-person shooters – the closest I've ever come are the minigames in Thrillville: Off the Rails – but the more exploration aspects of Prime sold me essentially immediately. I binged through the entirety of the trilogy in just a month, and I don't think I'll ever forget it. I've wanted to give it another playthrough for a while now, but it's hard to find the time to just sit on my couch and boot up the Wii U. Thankfully, with the surprise shadowdrop of Prime Remastered two weeks ago, I don't have to think about the Wii U version anymore (except to play Echoes again; my PC suffers from some stuttering issues whenever I load up PrimeHack). Prime Remastered is
SAGE 2022 First Impressions
The Sonic Amateur Games Expo is back in town this week, so I decided to play some of the hosted games and post my first impressions on some of them. This is in no way a comprehensive or detailed list; just something I decided to do for fun. Okay, let’s get started! Played on September 2, 2022 Kirby Gamble Galaxy Stories: I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed with this one. The controls, the presentation, the music, and the style are just top-notch. This genuinely feels like it could be an official HAL Laboratory game, and I really have to commend the devs for that. They even have a fun new Ability in the form of Mystic Beam—a different take on the mainstay Beam, incorporating a Leaf Shield-esque attack, a Din’s Flare-esque bomb, and a controllable charged projectile that can deal some heavy blows. Unfortunately, the demo falters in several areas. I have no idea why Asteroid Fields is listed first on the main menu, because it makes for an incredibly bad first impression.
